RYT YOGI. Because I am a strong believer in the holistic integration of mind, body & soul, I accepted an opportunity to become a certified yoga instructor. I am now a registered yoga teacher (RYT) with a focus in the vinyasa krama yogic arts, a form that embraces the art & science of combining yoga elements in flowing sequences to create variety, safety & effectiveness in a practice.
I also believe that is through the energy of the heart space where we most thrive & find our creative centers, and love to guide practitioners towards heart expansion, fearlessness & compassionate observation of energetic shifts within.
I am currently offering flow classes at my local YMCA & volunteer at my daughter's elementary school offering storytime yoga.
We tap into your flow, find a form that fits & go from there.
My own flow allows me to approach life with what some say is a sense of Renaissance gusto because I integrate a broad base of knowledge & skills that span multiple disciplines to support my personal & professional projects.
With an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from N.Y.U. & a drive for collecting data & imagery, my talents & personal passions transform themselves into a coastal & cultural anthropology which allow me to document my discoveries for local & national publications & assist businesses & individuals with their own programs & projects.
A marketing stint for the Village Voice Newspaper in New York demonstrated the power of print & media & how it can influence the masses. For the last decade-plus, I've helped businesses & individuals tap into their support tools & resources to present the story they seek to tell & rally their targeted audiences. My online literacy is up to speed & growing, allowing for a deeper understanding & appreciation of audience engagement.
Today, I work with select businesses & individuals on their projects & proposals, crafting the language they need to deliver their messages & helping guide them deeper into their own creative flow. My work ethic is intense, my commitment to clients unparalleled.
Current personal projects include a historic novel, a series of children's stories, a collection of poems, & a blog dedicated to the exploration of creativity, form & flow. My book "I Love Coconut Oil: 56 Simple Tips for Everyday Use" is a friendly guide to helping people move closer to health & wellness, & my new mamma blog THE SPARKLE POWER PROJECT helps moms remember their inner grit & glitter while they love their young each day.
My love for documenting the world continues as I capture images that arouse & inspire me. I aspire to travel to indigenous coastlines to document cultures & creatures found there before they disappear.
As a licensed & coast guard certified boat captain & registered yoga teacher, I teach & practice yoga & plays on & in the ocean whenever I can.
I am dedicated to living- & helping others live- a more luminous, joyful & creative life, as simply & sanely as possible.
IMAGERY & FLOW...SOMETIMES IT JUST CLICKS.
Though I am not a "schooled" photographer by any means, I did learn how to wrangle a camera in high school & spent hours in the darkroom developing film & prints. One day before graduating, I mentioned to my teacher that I dreamed of becoming a National Geographic photographer.
"You & everyone else," he flatly replied, & then went on with his "logic" on how saturated the market was & how few actually ever made it.
Impressionable & sensitive, I was crushed. It didn't help that the cost of materials in college later was yet another impediment. Further devastation, & feelings of shame around my family's finances.
But dream crushers and circumstances can't kill the artist's spirit. There are ways around things, and other forms to explore.
Instead, I learned to capture images in my head & use them to form stories with words. I went on to study with some of the greatest of contemporary poets: Charles Simic, Mkeel McBride, Donald Hall, Sharon Olds, Phil Levine, Galway Kinnel, Marie Howe, Jean Valentine. Witnessing their passion for poetry helped me understand my own poet's heart & that- above all else- it was the feeling I wanted to capture. The form- be it poetry, photography, or performance- is (a necessary) second.
With the digital age changing everything, imagery made its way back onto my horizon. Not only has it bolstered my career as a freelance writer, it has opened up my poet's heart for more joy, play & creativity.
Most of my more successful images are pure happy accidents. But no matter: In the moment they were taken, I can guarantee I was in that heightened sense of flow that likely helped it along. It's that very energy that will bring me to my original dream of collecting (more) imagery beyond borders & presenting them in meaningful, creative & educational ways.
